Roping Steers
Jun 12, 2018One thing you should know about my family...they love Roping Steers, calves, goats, dogs, chickens, my feet...the fact is there is always a loop swinging. They love to rope. It doesn't matter if it is in an arena, in a garage, on a horse, on foot, in the barn, in the house...okay I think you get the picture.
Roping has always been a part of our life. In fact, we even have our own roping arena here at the farm.
I took these pictures of the steers waiting to be roped. Now before you get all excited and think these steers are being mistreated, let me reassure you they are not. They are well fed and watered.
The fact is, cowboys and cowgirls have been roping steers, heifers, and calves for centuries and for many reasons. Haven't you ever watched a western? Ranch roping is where it all began.
Now that roping has become more of a sport, cowboys and cowgirls get there thrills swinging loops, in hopes of catching something at the other end. The ultimate goal--making the catch.
We actually have a roping dummy we drag around our arena for practice. Trust me, that plastic steer has seen many miles of dirt! Speaking of plastic steers, they don't eat much and never leave a pile of cow poop.
Here are some pictures. (no, not of cow poop, of steers!)
Steers waiting in the catch pen. The life of a roping steer...
Sarah waiting in the box. I couldn't get a good picture of her catch...or did she catch? It's the try that counts!
Putting the plan to work.
Wade ready to rope.
andddd....he's off.....andddd he catches! Yes!
Remember the plastic steer...this is it.
My Cowboy on his horse, rope in his hand, it's almost quittin' time.
It's never quittin' time around this farm.
Which reminds me...it's feedin' time, for me and the critters.
Happy Roping...
